Cambodia: Children of The River

I’m currently in Cambodia, and I’m always looking for books written about the place I’m visiting. One excellent book for Young Adult Readers, which U.S. About Cambodia, is Children of The River, by Linda Crew (published in 1989). It’s the story of a teenage girl who is growing up in Cambodia in the 1970’s, during the time of the Khmer Rouge. She is separated from her parents and flees with an aunt and uncle, eventually winding up in America. There she finds herself struggling to assimilate to American teen life, while also dealing with the trauma of her experiences in Cambodia. It was the winner of the American Library Association’s “Best Book for Young Adults”, Golden Kite Honor Book, and international Reading Association’s Children’s Book Award.
