Reading on the Subway in Japan

Japan is a nation with a high literacy rate, and a good way to pass the time while commuting to work is reading. Especially among the male population, anime and manga are a favorite. While it looks like some of the readers below are enjoying the same book, actually, it’s just a privacy cover to keep nosy neighbors from seeing what’s got the reader so engrossed!

  1. When I lived in NYC I didn’t own a car, used public transportation, and traveled often for work. I read so much on the subways, trains, airplanes, airports, subway platforms, train stations.
